What are the steps to get my license in California?

  1. Take I Drive Safely’s California Drivers License Course. 
  2. Take your written knowledge exam at the DMV, then get your permit! 
  3. Complete your Behind the Wheel hours - you’ll need to do some with a professional instructor, and some with any licensed driver over 21. For more details, check out Getting your Permit section of this help center.
  4. Once you meet all requirements, you’re ready to get your license!
