How long is this course, and do I have to complete it all in one sitting?

Our course meets the state’s 6-hour requirement. You don’t have to complete it all in one sitting - you can come and go as you please! Keep in mind, though, that if you are taking this course to dismiss a ticket, you will need to meet a court set deadline.

What is the format of this course?

This course is available in three different formats: Text, Audio Read-Along, and Video. You can select the option that works best for you.

What is the testing and grading policy? Do I have to take a final exam?

Each chapter contains a quiz that reviews important content from that chapter. There are 10 questions per quiz, and you must score a 70% or higher to move onto the next chapter. The quizzes will provide you with an excellent opportunity to master the course material. You will be provided with feedback on any incorrect answers, and you may retake your quizzes an unlimited amount of times. If you fail a quiz, you will be asked to retake the chapter’s lesson material before attempting the quiz again.

There is no final exam for your Texas insurance discount/defensive driving course, but there is a final exam for the Occupant Child and Passenger Safety (OCPS) course. You must past the 25 question final exam with a 70% or hire and have three attempts to pass the final exam.

Is there any way I can fail the course?

For insurance discount/defensive driving you have unlimited retakes on your chapter quizzes, so if you fail to achieve a passing score on a chapter, you can take it again until you do. The OCPS course requires a 25 question final exam and you have 3 attempts to achieve a passing score of 70%.

Is there a calendar deadline to complete a Texas defensive driving course?

Not to get an insurance discount; you’re free to complete that as you like. If you have a court-ordered requirement to take a traffic school course, the judge may assign a deadline date by which you’ll need to complete the course. I Drive Safely provides 730 days to complete your course.

How will I receive my certificate of completion?

You have several options when it comes to how you’ll receive your certificate. Keep in mind that pricing varies for each option.

    • ● Electronic Delivery
    • ● US Mail
    • ● Fed Ex

* Our seat belt course only offers the option to receive your certificate for free via U.S. Mail. If you need it sooner than that, we have additional options for expedited delivery via FedEx.

How will my court or insurance company know I’ve completed this course?

Ticket Dismissal Course:

If you’re taking the course to dismiss a ticket, you’ll need to turn in your certificate of completion and a driver record to your court once you've completed your course. You can purchase a driver record from I Drive Safely for $20.

Insurance Discount Course:

If you’re taking the course for an insurance discount, you’ll simply need to turn your certificate of completion in to your insurance provider, and a discount will be applied to your premium.

Seat Belt Course

If you have a court-ordered requirement to take a traffic school course, the judge may assign a deadline date by which you’ll need to complete the course.
