I passed my Knowledge Exam. What do I need to do now?
We report your completion directly to the DHSMV. Please allow 2-3 business days for the completion to show up in the DHSMV’s system.
What do I need to do before I can get my permit?
Before you can get your permit, you must:
- ● Complete your 4-hour Florida Drug & Alcohol course
- ● Take and pass the Florida Knowledge Exam. This can be done online through I Drive Safely, or you may opt to take the test at the DHSMV. Please note that if you are 18 or older, or if you have attempted and failed the exam three times online, you must take the exam at the DHSMV.
Why isn’t my knowledge exam score showing up in the DMV system?
There are a couple of reasons this may be happening.
- ● You have not purchased the knowledge exam. Unless you purchased the bundle, the knowledge exam is a separate purchase. The course final exam is not the same as the knowledge exam.
- ● You’ve purchased the knowledge exam but have not taken it yet. Often, students take the course final exam and believe they are done with the course, but they have not yet taken the knowledge exam.
- ● You made a mistake when entering your personal information. For example, you entered your birthday incorrectly or spelled your name wrong.
- ● You have not allowed 2-3 business days for the completion to show in the DHSMV’s system

Are there any restrictions when driving with my learner’s license?
Yes, there are! For the first 3 months you may only drive during daylight hours. After the first 3 months, you may only drive until 10 PM. At all times while you hold your learner’s license, you must be accompanied by a licensed driver who is 21 years of age or older. They must be seated in the front passenger seat while you’re driving.
Is it necessary for me to get my Florida learner’s permit?
If you are 15-17 years of age, you must get a learner’s permit and hold it for one year - without any traffic violations - before earning your driver's license.
What are the in-car driving requirements while I hold my permit?
Before you apply for your first-time Florida drivers license, you must complete a minimum of 50-hours of in-care driving practice. These hours must be completed with a licensed driver who is 21 or older in the front passenger seat. 10 of the 50 hours must be at night.
You are not required to log your hours, but your parent will need to sign an affidavit at the DHSMV verifying that these hours were completed.
